the vdig is a video digitizer plug-in component for QuickTime on Windows that allows applications using QuickTime to capture video from a variety of sources, such as PCI cards, USB WebCams or DV cameras connected via FireWire.
All available DirectShow devices appear in QuickTime

When QuickTime is initialized, a 'vdig' component is registered for every available DirectShow device.
DirectShow and Video For Windows settings can be accessed via the standard QuickTime video capture configuration dialog.
